We are very proud of our firm’s heritage and history, and our trademark characteristic --providing the utmost in personalized service and dedicated concern to the families of Central New York. Jim Dean, Jana Haldenwang, and Joe Shay are our current licensed funeral directors. Together, our firm offers families more than 75 combined years of competent, caring, professional funeral arrangement services. Our office manager is Loni Petrie, who has been with the firm since 1990.
James P. (Jim) Dean - President, Managing Director and Licensed Owner
Jim is the third-generation owner of the Campbell-Dean funeral home, a business that has been in the Dean family for more than 65 years. Jim’s father, Marion, was a Canastota native and Canastota High School graduate, and his mother, Lorena Olcott Dean, grew up in Oneida and graduated from Oneida High School.
Jim grew up in Oneida and attended Oneida Schools, graduating from Christian Brothers Academy. He attended Villanova University and graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in finance. He was employed in the banking industry for two years before attending Wayne State University in Detroit for his professional funeral service education, graduating in 1972. He received his license as a funeral director in the State of Michigan in 1972. After serving a one-year residency, he earned his New York State funeral director license in 1973.

Jana L. Haldenwang - Licensed Funeral Director, Licensed Manager, Canastota
Jana is a native of Verona, and a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central Schools, class of 1995. She received her undergraduate degree from Kent State University in 1999, and her professional funeral service education from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in 2001. She joined the Campbell-Dean firm in 2002.
As a Certified Bereavement Facilitator from the American Academy of Bereavement, Jana’s services are readily available to assist families and community members.

Joseph P. (Joe) Shay - Licensed Funeral Director
Joe is a native of Oneida and a graduate of Oneida High School. He also graduated from Daniel Webster College, Utica College, and received his funeral service professional education from Simmons Institute of Funeral Service. He joined the Campbell-Dean firm in 2002, and also is employed as a commercial airline pilot for World Airways. A resident of Sherrill, Joe served on Sherrill’s City Commission for 12 years, and held the office of mayor for 10 years.

Loni B. Petrie - Office Manager
Loni was born and raised in Oneida, and is a graduate of Oneida High School. She has been with the firm since 1990, and serves as Campbell-Dean’s office manager. Loni is a Notary Public for the State of New York.
